About me

Hi, I'm Darby, an aspiring UX and product designer living in Seattle.

I am a third-year student at the University of Washington studying Human-Centered Design and Engineering with a minor in Applied Math. I have yet to choose a specialization, but I aim to build a career in UX design, user research, or product design. I am interested in sustainable design and design ethics, with a strong commitment to creating inclusive designs.

My journey in this field started in roles as a content creator and logistics director (for The Society of Women Engineers) where I learned leadership and organizational skills. Later, I became a member of several design teams (through classes and extracurriculars) where I learned to iterate on designs that create user-centered solutions. I feel drawn to the iterative process of design because it supports thoughtful, purposeful, and effective designs. My background in mathematics and computer science helps me approach design problems from a logical and analytical standpoint. I value dedication and have developed strong teamwork and time management skills through my experience in team environments– which are crucial for a career in UX Design.

Studying abroad in Japan was a pivotal experience, strengthening my understanding of how history, culture, and art shape human experiences. This supplements my experience in human-centered design because understanding cultural nuances helps me create designs that resonate with users.

Looking ahead, I am eager to continue developing my skills in the design process. My long-standing goal to pursue graduate school abroad will help me refine my technical and creative abilities and also broaden my perspective as a global designer. I am excited to contribute to the design community through impactful solutions that advance the principles of ethical and sustainable design.

Outside of school, I love to spend time outdoors. I am an avid runner and I just finished my first marathon! I spend most of my Saturday mornings running all over the city of Seattle and exploring new neighborhoods. I also love to hike, ski, roller skate, and backpack. I love to work on art projects and I design a bullet journal to keep me organized and fuel my creative outlet.
